Somewhere in the mountain villages of Milpa Alta ✨🇲🇽 #mexico {Guava and oats - agua del día} ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Only in #Mexico, can they make this combination and make it sooo good. I didn't know there was oats in it or I would have never tried it ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Real talk, the fruit juices here are OUT OF THE WORLD. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ One of the things I miss about #India are the fresh juice stands at every corner. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #mexicocity reminds me so much of India in that regard and they make juices, tea, and agua del día with many tropical fruits and flowers. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Hibiscus, passionfruit, cactus, I'm loving it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Have you tried any crazy fruit juices? Somewhere on the streets of #mexicocity. 🇲🇽
Spent the day in the Mexican countryside of Milpa Alta - "high cornfield" in Spanish. Not only have I eaten my weight in tortillas, cactus, and other delicious food, it was truly eye-opening to see the people involved in bringing this food to your table, the pre-Hispanic traditions of cultivation and cooking. I'm both humbled and stuffed to the brim. // P:S @_zurfer is the best guide ever, thanks to Juan and his adorable son Valentino for whipping up an amazing meal in the middle of a cactus field under a tree and @unknownmad for whizzing us around the mountains and fields in her zippy car. {If you are in #MexicoCity, you must do their @airbnb experience. Not an ad, I genuinely enjoyed today} Walked straight into a Mexican musical yesterday, it was amazing. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We were strolling in a beautiful artisanal market with handicrafts from all over Mexico when we stumbled upon a lovely guitar shop where an uncle and nephew duo was making custom guitars from scratch. There were guitars made from wood in different shades of beige, maroon, and brown and it was quite the sight. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The owner said something to me, I had no idea what he said and before I could respond, another older lady who was in the shop picked up a guitar, sat down and started strumming and singing. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ There's nothing quite like live music and even I thought I couldn't understand what she was singing, I was spellbound and sat down. Within no time, she had a captive audience of 4. The owner and his uncle, me and an uncomfortable Deepesh. The owner started talking to me animatedly in Spanish, I caught a few words, something about the lady being a "maestro". Then to make Deepesh feel at ease, the uncle, quite the comedian, started dancing with Deepesh. Within minutes, we were all clapping, laughing, chatting, singing. They didn't speak English, we spoke terrible Spanish but that didn't stop us. The uncle insisted only a million times that we visit him in Michoacan, where he is actually from. Little did he know, I only needed one invite. He shoved a guitar in my hand, and insisted I pose ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Language barriers don't matter when there is great music and good people ✨🇲🇽 Floated down the narrow canals of Xochimilco in a colorful vibrant trajinera (traditional flat bottom boat) yesterday and my only complaint was that it was TOO short. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Imagine the canals of Venice but throw in bright vibrant colors and funky designs, Mariachi bands serenading you as float past, delicious Micheladas, and floating markets where you can buy tacos and drinks. People on the adjacent boats are dancing, singing, laughing, and it's a giant party. I have seen nothing quite like it the Mexicans' zest for life is infectious. 🇲🇽 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ When we weren't surrounded by other trajineras, we were floating past chinampas, small artificial islands where people live, and grow flowers, vegetables and ornamental plants and tons of doggies (and cats) running and playing around. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Shout out to our trajinera driver Angel who painstakingly manouvered us through the canals and then changed the name of our trajinera to Divya and I didn't even ask him for it heh. I love Mexico 🇲🇽
